MISSION
The mission of the Middletown Library Media
Center is to have an atmosphere that is
conducive to learning and provides the materials
that will promote literacy and the effective use
of information, ideas, and technology by
students and staff.
Checkout Policy for Faculty
The Middletown faculty can check out books and
AV materials at any time. There is no limit on
what they can check out of the library media
center. Teachers can select books themselves or
ask the library media specialist to select
materials for them.
Checkout Policy for Students
Our kindergarten students may only have one book
checked out in their name. Students in grades 1
- 5 may only have two books checked out in their
name. All students need to return their books
the following week. If they are not finished
with the book, then they still need to return it
so that it can be renewed. It can be renewed up
to three times. If a book is overdue there is no
fee charged. If a book is lost then you need to
let the library specialist know so you can be
provided information on replacement of the book.
Classes with 90% of their students having no
overdue books are announced on our WDOG Morning
Newscast.
Library Rules
Middletown Library Media Center expectations are
as follows:
-
listen to and follow directions
-
raise your hand before you speak
-
keep your hands, feet, and objects to
yourself
-
respect others and their space
-
become a responsible learner
-
take care of library books and return them
on time
PROGRAMS
Accelerated Reader (AR)
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that
test students on their reading comprehension.
They read books that are on the
Middletown AR list and then take a test.
Students in grades K- 5 may take these tests on
the computers in their rooms and in the library.
PTA recognizes students and gives awards to
those when they attain a certain number of
points.
Daily WDOG Morning Telecast
This is a live five minute television telecast
that 5th grade students participate in as
anchors, camera persons, and cue card persons.
They fill out an application and students are
assigned to groups of 4. A schedule is given to
the students so they know when it is their turn
to be in charge of the telecast.
