  Accelerated Reader (AR) Program
Timeline: All school year
Students select library books from a wide range of levels and topics that are on the AR list. Upon completion of the book, the children take a test on a computer that asks them specific questions about the book. Volunteers are needed in P2 and P3 (first and second grades to help students take the tests, as well as to update student point totals and to print out teacher reports. Back to School
Timeline: First week of school
Things include helping kids off and on the buses, carpool lines for drop off and pick-up and extra help in the cafeteria.  If you could volunteer time in the morning, during lunch or after school you are really helping to make a difference.

Baking Bulldogs
Timeline: All school year
Volunteers provide baked goods for various school events. This is a great “at-home” volunteer opportunity.

BooHoo Breakfast
Timeline: 1st day of School for Kindergarten Parents
The first day of school.

Cookies with Santa
Timeline: December
Assist with set-up, cookie/punch service, or clean-up.

 

 

Campus/Grounds Beautification
Timeline: Events throughout the school year
Plan and organize campus cleanups and landscaping projects. Coordinate the maintenance and learning experiences in our butterfly garden.

Clip for Cash - Box Tops/Campbell’s Labels/Tyson
Timeline: All school year
Collect, organize, and submit box tops, etc. to be redeemed for cash. Pick up labels from local restaurants weekly. Some work can be done at home.

Clothing Drive
Timeline: Fall and spring events
Collect, organize and distribute clothes to Middletown students, and send reminders to the 15th District PTA Clothing Assistance Program (CAP). Most work is done during school hours, but this could become a Saturday-morning event in order to make this work parent-friendly.

 

 

End of State Testing Celebration
Timeline: May

Family Fun Night
Timeline: October
Assist with planning, set-up, clean-up, etc. for this popular event. Many volunteers are needed.

Field Day
Timeline: May
This is an event full of outdoor, physical activities that takes place near the end of the school year to celebrate and to encourage fitness. It is usually coordinated by the P.E. teacher, and many volunteers are needed.

 

Fifth Grade Committee
Timeline:  All school year.
Help organize activities unique to the fifth grade.

Fifth Grade Promotion
Timeline: May
Come for a ceremony and picnic as we say good-bye to our 5th Graders, as they move onto Middle School. Help needed for organizing, set-up and clean-up of this event.

Grandparents' Day
Timeline: November
Grandparents are invited in to have a Thanksgiving lunch with their grandchildren in the school cafeteria.

Health (Vision and Hearing Screening)
Assist with hearing and vision screening; training is provided.

Honor Roll/Boomer's Club/Awards
Timeline: Each grading period throughout the school year
Assist chairpersons in maintaining a bulletin board that lists students who maintain all A’s, B’s, O’s and/or S’s in all subject area. Help print and distribute certificates and organize an end-of-year recognition for the Honor Roll students.

Library Volunteers
Timeline: All Year
Help out in our library putting books away.

Lunchroom Volunteers
Timeline: All Year
Come for an hour or two and help out in the lunchroom.  Tasks include helping kids open up ketchup packets and just keeping an eye on them while they eat.

Kentucky Kids' Day
Timeline: September
Serve ice cream sundaes and help clean up. This event is held during school hours.

Market Day Food Co-Op
Timeline: Monthly throughout the school year
Assist one afternoon a month in unloading and setting up food orders at school.

  Marquee
Timeline: Regularly throughout the school year
Assist in changing school marquee signs (located in front of the school building and on the side of the building by the carpool area) on a rotating, as-needed basis.

Membership
Timeline: August 'til February
Help out with processing Middletown Elementary memberships to the PTA.

Middletown Elementary Men's Group
Timeline: Regularly throughout the school year
Male members of the PTA meet together to get involved with the school.

Middletown Community Family Fun Festival Parade
Timeline: Late August or Early September
Accompany students during the parade. Work includes advertising in the school newsletter to promote participation and blowing up balloons on the day of the parade.

Newsletter - Messenger
Timeline: Weekly, throughout the school year
Editors format and type the weekly Bulldog Messenger using Microsoft Publisher software. Committee members copy and distribute the newsletter one time per month.

Read-A-Thon
Timeline: Fall
PTA Fundraiser.

Recycling Inkjet & Toner Cartridges
Timeline: All Year
Just send in your used inkjet and toner cartridges and we will do the rest.  Your empty cartridges help earn the school cash to support many of our great programs.
 

  Reflections
Timeline: September and October
This is a statewide competition with a variety of school entries: visual, written, or music. Volunteers promote the program and organize the entries. The deadline for entries is in October. Some work may be done at home—depending on committee decisions.

SBDM Committee Members (different from council)
Timeline: All Year
Areas include planning and professional development, budget & staffing, climate/safety.

School Pictures
Timeline: Fall and spring picture days
Set up dates and help during fall and spring picture days during school hours.

Science Fair
Timeline: February and March
Promote this annual event and organize entries for the fair.

Skating Parties
Timeline: Throughout the year
Sell tickets at the door the night of the skating party. Purchase prizes.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Timeline: Spring
We must have two chairpersons for this event. Organize the events of the week. Volunteers are needed to bake and help serve food for the luncheon. Volunteers also stay in classrooms with students during the luncheon. Some work can be done at home.

WDOG - Friday Edition
Timeline: Throughout the year
Middletown’s own taped newscast! Most work is done during school hours. Some off-site shoots may be possible. You don’t need to be a media specialist to do this.

Website
Timeline: Throughout the year
Design, update and maintain the school's website.

Yearbook
Timeline: During the school year
Layout of the yearbook will be done on the computer and at home. Much of the work can be accomplished at home. Some in-school photography, name-checking, etc., is required.
